Lying in the park on a beautiful day
The sunshine in the grass
And the children play
Sirens passing fire engine red
Someone's house is burning down
On a day like this

The evening comes and we're hanging out
On a front step and a car goes by
With the windows rolled down
And that war song is playing
Why can't we be friends
Someone is screaming and crying
In the apartment upstairs

Funny the way it is
Make you think about it
Somebody's going hungry
And someone else is eating out
Funny the way it is
Not right or wrong
Somebody's heart is broken
And it becomes your favorite song

The way your mouth feels in your lover's kiss
Like a pretty bird on the breeze
Or water to a fish
The bomb blast brings the building crashing to the floor
Hear the laughter
While the children play war

Funny the way it is
Make you think about it
One kid walks ten miles to school
Anothers dropping out
Funny the way it is
Not right or wrong
A soldier's last breath
His baby's being born

Standing on a bridge
Watch the water passing underneath
It must have been much harder
When there was no bridge just water
Now the world is small
Compared to how it used to be
With mountains and oceans
And winters and rivers and stars

Funny the way it is
Not right or wrong
Somebody's broken heart
And it becomes your favorite song
Funny the way it is
Make you think about it
One kid walks ten miles to school
Anothers dropping out

Man must cease attributing his problems to his environment, and learn again to exercise his will- his personal responsibility
in the realm of faith and morals.

So in case you didn’t receive a text message from me, I wanted to let you know…I am engaged!

Nick and I went to Virginia for our spring break (which I will write more about at another time). On Wednesday, we went to Blenheim Vineyards, which is located up in the hills by Monticello. The winery building is a beautiful a-frame building with many windows and skylights. It was built to have minimal impact on the environment. To see pictures and learn more about it, visit http://www.blenheimvineyards.com/. It is actually pretty cool- the entire thing is even made out of reclaimed wood, some of it from England!

Anyway, once we were done with the wine tasting, we went out on the balcony. The view was fantastic; It overlooked both the Blenheim vineyards and the Kluge vineyards. It was also a fantastic view of the mountains. I asked the woman who gave us our wine tasting if she would take a picture. I positioned myself only to notice that Nick was standing a few feet away from me. He looked like he was about to cry! He turned to me, got on his knee, and asked me to marry him! The woman took a bunch of pictures as it was going on, so we have pictures of the proposal!

Ok, I left something out…the reason Nick picked Blenheim Vineyards is because it is owned by Dave Matthews and operated by his family. The Dave Matthews Band has been my favorite all-time band for the last 13 years (as I am sure you all know!). Nick always liked the band, but I turned him into a fanatic and it is pretty much all we listen to. I even Nick to his first DMB concert. So, Blenheim Vineyards has a special meeting to me! We saw Dave’s brother, Peter, and the wine-giving/picture-taking woman is supposedly Dave’s half sister. I say supposedly because I didn’t know he had one, but the wine tasting coordinator told us that’s who she is.

We haven’t set a date in stone yet, but are hoping for July 2010. We want a summer wedding, and this summer is approaching too soon to try to plan a wedding (without freaking out). Also we will both be graduated by that time. The ring Nick gave me is a BEAUTIFUL and we are both very excited! Thank you to everyone for their warm wishes!

On Monday, I got home from the Rothbury Music Festival. I must say, I had a great time. It was nice spending so much time with Jeff, and of course any time I spend with Nick is great. The atmosphere was great, camping was fun, and I saw a lot of great bands. They were as follows:

Thursday
Zappa Plays Zappa
Disco Biscuits
Motion Potion

Friday
The Wailers
Snoop Dogg (yuck)
311
Modest Mouse
Sage Francis

Saturday
Michael Franti and Spearhead (AMAZING show! I have to buy their album)
Dave Matthews Band (Also an AMAZING show!)

Sunday
Phil Lesh and Friends
Colbie Callat
John Mayer
Atmosphere with Brother Ali

From our campsite, we could hear a lot of the bands playing at the main stage, but the bands I listed I actually saw in person.

On Saturday, before the two shows we saw, Jeff, Nick, and I went to a water park which was so much fun. It was also nice to have a shower!

I met two of Jeff’s friends, Michelle and Monica, who were awesome. They hung out at our campsite a couple of times.

I’m sun burnt (now peeling), still recuperating, spent too much money, ate too many hot dogs, and drank too much beer. But I had an awesome time! It was totally worth the money! I’ll post picture on my Facebook and my Myspace soon.
